Chronic pain can be difficult to live with. In fact, 1 in 12 Americans live with chronic pain so bad that it prevents them from doing daily activities. We’ve worked with WebMD to provide a tailored resource for members living with chronic pain. The Pain Management Resource Center provides up-to-date articles and links to key resources and testimonials that can help you find the type of care that works best.

What makes chronic pain different
Chronic pain often develops one of two different ways: from acute pain that doesn’t heal or from an illness. Despite treatment, the pain doesn’t go away when it’s supposed to. It might not even feel like ‘pain’ and can feel:

  • Shooting
  • Burning
  • Prickly
  • Stabbing
  • Dull
  • Achy
  • Throbbing
  • Tender

What starts as a local issue can start to affect other parts of your life and may cause fatigue, sleeplessness, depression, anxiety or impaired motor function.

Finding treatment
Management is an important part of living with a chronic condition. Although chronic pain commonly comes in the form of back, pelvic or joint pain, everyone responds differently to treatment. Typically treatment ranges anywhere from prescriptions to mental exercises—or a combination of different methods. That’s why it’s important to learn about managing your condition and work with your doctor to explore the best way to reduce pain and live healthy.

With the Pain Management Resource Center, you can stay up to date on the latest information related to chronic pain and access tools to help you find the type of care that fits your needs.  Log in to MyBlue to get started.
