Five Foods That Fight Heartburn

Acid reflux occurs when there is acid backflow from the stomach into the esophagus. And heartburn sufferers know, there are a few foods that can turn up the heat and trouble an already sensitive stomach. But did you also know there are some acid-fighting swaps you can make in your diet to actually reduce your symptoms? Try these swaps below to help curb heartburn.

Fruit—yes fruit.
While most fruits like oranges and other citrus have high acid content, melons, bananas and pears do not. So don’t fear all fruits, just go for the low-acid ones.

Pack in some protein.
Protein from low-cholesterol sources like chicken, salmon or beans help reduce symptoms of acid-reflux.

Eggs, but hold the yolks.
Egg whites are a great source of protein and are low in acid. Just take a pass on the yolks because they can contribute to symptoms.

Oatmeal
Oatmeal is a great breakfast option. Make sure yours is whole grain and high in fiber to reduce heartburn in the morning.

Bread
Make sure you check the label and see whole grain as the first ingredient and you’re good to go.
