Overseas Coverage
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan has you covered worldwide.
General health services provided by Teladoc are available to U.S.-based members traveling or temporarily living abroad. For members overseas, FEP will also cover telehealth consultations from a local overseas provider. Learn more here.
Please note that international mail may be delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic (see USPS Service Alerts for details). Overseas members may experience delays in receiving ID cards, incentive rewards, and explanation of benefits (EOBs).
If you need medical care outside the U.S, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands you can rest assured that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Service Benefit Plan offers worldwide coverage. Through the Overseas Assistance Center, you’re covered when working or traveling overseas.
All the ways our Overseas Assistance Center helps you manage your healthcare needs around the world:

Overseas Network
We have over 13,000 providers in our overseas network, including hospitals, clinics, doctors and specialists. Many of these providers have agreed to a direct billing arrangement with our overseas assistance vendor, GMMI. They accept our allowance as payment in full for their services and also file your claims for you.
To arrange direct billing and cashless access with your provider, you must contact GMMI prior to receiving medical services.
Pharmacy coverage
Your pharmacy coverage works outside the U.S. But since there are no Preferred retail pharmacies overseas, you need to pay for your prescriptions out-of-pocket and then submit your receipts and a completed claim form to get reimbursed. Overseas prescription drug claims must be submitted within one year of the purchase date.
Compare overseas prescription drug costs for our three plan options.
*Note: Guam is considered overseas, however, some pharmacies may be able to bill electronically.
Submit an overseas claim
Submitting your overseas medical and prescription drug claims online is easy and provides faster processing and claims payment.
You can submit them through MyBlue, our secure members-only website. Use MyBlue to access your personal health information wherever you go.
To submit by mail or fax, use the forms below. Detailed instructions are on each form:
