How Parks And Green Spaces Protect Your Health

When it comes to your health, a little greenery goes a long way—and we’re not talking fruits and vegetables. Close proximity to green spaces like parks and woods may improve your mental and physical health.

A study discovered that living near green spaces is associated with less depression, anxiety and other health problems. The relationship was strongest for children and people with low incomes.

The study found that the impact was greatest for mental health conditions. People living in areas with the most green space were 33% less likely to have anxiety disorders that required treatment. They were also roughly 20% less likely to receive treatment for depression.

Green space proximity has benefits for physical health, too. The study found that the protective benefits were strongest for respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD and upper respiratory infections.

Fresh air has lots of science-backed benefits. It can improve mood, healing and concentration to name a few. Nature is an environment where you can recover from daily stress. Try incorporating more time in green spaces into your daily life. A walk in the park or an outdoor workout can do the trick. Young or old, green spaces are important for your health.

If you’re feeling stressed, you can use telehealth services to speak to a licensed behavioral health specialist.
