Earn Rewards and Make Strides Toward Better Health
Walking is a simple way to increase activity and boost your health
Walking can help you lower your risk for heart disease, diabetes and obesity. It’s also a great way to reach your Online Health Coach goals and earn up to $120 in rewards. And if you own a Fitbit fitness device, you can sync your device to Health Tools on MyBlue to automatically track your progress and help you reach your goals.
The health benefits of walking
Whether you want to lose weight, exercise more, or reduce stress, walking is a great place to start. If you have a fitness device, aim for 2,000 steps over your daily average, eventually working up to 10,000 steps per day. If you don’t have a device, aim for 30 active minutes per day, 5 days per week for 2 ½ active hours per week. Choosing to walk to work, taking the stairs, or opting for walking meetings are simple ways to add more steps to your day.How to choose a fitness device
If you’re considering a fitness device, a little bit of research can help you find the one that best fits your needs.
Many devices connect easily to your smartphone to track your progress, while others send smartphone notifications right to your wrist. Some fitness bands simply count your steps and calories, while others go as far as measuring heart rate and REM sleep cycles. If your regular activity doesn’t involve steps (think cycling or lifting weights), you may want a fitness device that measures your heart rate to determine your activity level.
